Origami Wellness was conceived by Maria Abada, a child psychotherapist. She gained her clinical training from Columbia University and is currently working as a licensed professional counselor. Maria combines her love of art and therapy and utilizes origami as a therapeutic tool in her counseling practice. She has found the usage of origami helpful for a number of her clients including those with ADHD, anxiety, anger issues, difficulties with expression, and developmental disabilities. Fellow mental health practitioners became aware of her successes connecting to clients using origami, and her vision spread. Maria’s goal is to advocate the usage of origami as a beneficial therapeutic tool not only for health practitioners and educators, but for anyone interested in connecting with someone through art.
